I recently received an email from a quilting friend with information about a tatted "felt" for antique sewing machines. Seems that the felt helps keep wear down on the body of the machine where the thread spool spins. In addition it looks pretty! I contacted the lady, Esther Waid, who had originally made her tatted "felt". She kindly sent me her pattern and I was off and running.
As Esther noted the first ring does look awfully big but when done it fits snugly on the post of the machine. I made 2 felts and gave them to my quilting friend then made another 2 for myself. The white one s worked in DMC Cebelia, size 30. The blue/green one is Valdani size 12. the variegated thread is a softer thread and has more body to it. .
